    November 6, 2017 / No Comments

I worked summers as a Candy Striper (yes…striper) when I was in high school, and I remember that while we were allowed to wear Bobbie socks and Ked’s sneakers, the nurses were required to wear white stockings and hard, white leather shoes…with heels!  ?The Best Shoes For Nurses | Women’s Health

  • HOW FAST DO YOUR KID’S FEET GROW?

    July 10, 2017 / No Comments

I was interviewed regarding how fast our children’s feet grow, especially as it pertains to purchasing shoes. This is important. I remember when I was a kid, we didn’t have a lot of shoes. Relative to the household income of the time, shoes were expensive. I usually got one pair of leather shoes almost a size too big. My mom never bought them for my exact size, and I used them until they wore out or got too small. We wore that one pair of shoes so long, that parents became attached to them, as a keepsake of our childhood. They had them bronzed and made into ashtrays and bookends. Now we have…

  • RESPECT YOUR PINKY TOE

    August 9, 2015 / No Comments

Last week I saw two pinky toe fractures (attached to patients of course). I estimate that I see at least one broken or dislocated pinky toe a month, sometimes more. If I multiply that by 12, and then again by the 34 years I’ve been practicing, that’s over 400 pinky toe injuries. Then keep doing more math to see how many pinky toe injuries we might see in my group, or in the city of Austin…THE WORLD. It’s a lot! And I’m pretty sure 99% of these injuries are 100% preventable. Because most of the time my patients stub those helpless little appendages on a bed or a door frame which…

  • BE KIND TO YOUR FEET!

    November 1, 2011 / No Comments

I was going to take the “Be Kind” series from the tips of the fingers down to the tips of the toes but I changed my mind. I’m going to go where my patients tell me to go and this week they told me to go to ground. Ground Zero of the human body is the feet. And those dogs took a beating this week. My patients showed up with fractures, cuts, infections, deformities, nerve damage, stress reactions and my pet project…plantar fasciitis; the disease I want to eradicate in my life time. I’m making headway with my own patients and with the world. Already about 1000 people have…
