  • DITCH THOSE HIGH HEELED SHOES…WHEN YOU CAN

    April 9, 2023 / 11 Comments

I loved a high heeled pump as well as any other healthy, All-American girl, and I wore them from the time I was able to buy my own shoes, until wearing them became so painful, I had to take them off under a conference table…and get to a table quickly. All are gone, except one pair of boots, a shrine to past abilities. At 6 feet tall, I was somewhat outstanding in a pair of 3 to 4-inch shoes, and my hubby, comfortable with his own masculinity, did not care that I was several inches taller than him…or at least he never indicated he did. Have to think on that…

Do you find the overabundance of socks in stores a little confusing? Besides fashion socks, there are all sorts of sports socks, with different kinds of cushioning, different degrees of support in key areas, different materials, and a special sock for every activity. There are some which wick away moisture… A lot of my patients are wearing compression socks. Originally, they were used to decrease swelling, or to prevent blog clots after surgery. But now I see them used for pain and tired legs. For those who really need them, there is a science to the selection of these socks. But do we always need compression? No. In fact,…

  • Part 4: STAYING PAIN-FREE DURING COVID-19 – FEET

    April 12, 2020 / No Comments

Believe it or not, April is National Foot Health Awareness Month, so what better time to cover keeping your feet pain-free than now? Frankly, every day should be foot health awareness day, because let’s face it…these dogs are always hurting us. They get injured. They’re deformed from the time we’re born. We wear the wrong shoes most of our lives, and they bear the weight of our entire body. Here’s how to help keep them pain-free and give them a little love while you’re at it. Rest: If your feet are hurting, get off them for a little while. Elevate your legs and feet, especially if they’re swollen. Massage your…

  • What Happens to Your Body When You Stop Wearing High Heels

    August 13, 2018 / No Comments

The tradition of foot binding in China started sometime during the Song Dynasty (10th-13th century) and was outlawed in 1912! Centuries before, it had been banned, but the women of China continued the practice until it was actually outlawed! The deforming of the foot, in order to make it look like a lotus blossom, was so desired by men, that many women continued to protest the ban on the painful process. Are we not doing something akin to this by wearing high heels? The deformities and pain caused by the use of high heels is pervasive throughout the world, and millions of operations are done every year for these painful…
