  • WE CHANGE AFTER 40!

    May 27, 2016 / No Comments

Ugh! It’s a forgone conclusion, and there’s not much you can do about it. We change after 40, and even more so after 50! Most of the changes are predetermined by your genes, and there’s little you can do to change that. Thank you mom and dad. But some of the changes are influenced by lifestyle, and we might be able to do something about that. Check out this article from Mother Nature Network. Of course I had something to say about it… http://www.mnn.com/health/fitness-well-being/stories/6-ways-womans-body-will-change-when-she-turns-40

  • FACE TO FACE WITH YOUR DOC? TECHNOLOGY AND TELEMEDICINE MIGHT CHANGE THAT

    May 8, 2014 / No Comments

There is a lot of ongoing discussion regarding the future of the traditional doctor’s office visit and the relationship between doctors and patients in a world of growing need, fewer doctors and more technology. I was recently asked to comment on this subject by Software Advice (http://www.softwareadvice.com/medical/ ). I think you’ll find this compelling article interesting, and it’s evident that there is interest in the software community to try to streamline the process. http://profitable-practice.softwareadvice.com/doctors-office-of-2024-0514/

  • KIDS AND PILLS

    December 2, 2012 / No Comments

Before I say anything about kids and pills, I have to preface it by saying that for adults and pills, whatever I say goes double. But first a few definitions. Ninety-five percent of the pills I prescribe fall into two categories; anti-inflammatories and pain relievers. Anti-inflammatories fall into two categories; steroids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs). Pain relievers also fall into two categories; narcotics and non-narcotics. Steroids are…well…steroids. They’re also commonly known as cortisone, corticosteroids and prednisone. The most common one used by orthopedic surgeons is methylprednisolone, often prescribed in the form of a Medrol Dosepak, which is a tapering dose of the medication. It’s used for a short burst of…

  • A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS

    November 27, 2011 / No Comments

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens Brown paper packages tied up with strings These are a few of my favorite things… Over the years I have collected a list of items I often recommend that my patients purchase. I’m going to go through a few of those items as we go into the holiday season, because they would make great gifts and stocking stuffers. And there’s nothing that says you can’t get one of these things for yourself! I own every one of them. I’ve already mentioned Bucky Eye Shades in my blog on Sleep Deprivation. Blocking out extraneous light is a…
